This race is the heart beat of the triathlon world. But I have noticed many of the people that live in the city who are triathletes don’t race this race for some reason, but everyone goes out to support the athletes. This race is at elevation and this key factor should be noted. This adds a stressed that should be taken to heart and some people really struggle with this race. In 2017, I was able to go and volunteer at this race. It is a well-oiled machine, but since then they have changed a few things here and there to make it streamlined even more. The swimming in the reservoir is interesting. It features a beach start, but a boat ramp exit. I like this because it eliminates the sand in T1, which is great. But at T2, don’t expect there to be an aid station right there. If you want water out of T2, bring your own. This course is challenging and fun, but be prepared on the run for some serious heat, no shade, and lots of time in your head on the back side of the course.
Would I do this race? Yes
